I thought that I should tell you all about how the You're So Vegan E-shop was born :) I became vegan over 3 years ago after reading Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. It was a real wake up call for me, having been vegetarian for ethical reasons since childhood I couldn't believe I hadn't ever really thought about dairy, eggs leather and other animal products in clothing and beauty products. I started reading the book at the departure lounge of LAX and by the time my plan landed in London, I was vegan. It was that simple for me, because once you know, you cannot un-know.
The change in my diet that followed was the easy part; it was giving up my designer bags and shoes that really hurt and I found it hard to find alternatives. I came across a lot of hemp and cotton but not a lot of style and glamour in my search for vegan fashion. Everything I liked came from the States and was from individual shops/designers; there was no one place to get everything. I kept thinking to myself, we really could do with a vegan shop where people can visit, don't have to check the labels or research the designer. Somewhere people can relax in the knowledge that everything they are seeing is 100% vegan friendly and where they have a broad selection of designers to choose from. That's when You're So Vegan was born. It's taken over a year to bring the idea to fruition, and we are only at the beginning of a very long journey. I want to make vegan living as easy and accessible as possible and I hope that YSV will be a groundbreaker in the realm of vegan fashion. There is no reason why becoming vegan should mean you have to sacrifice fashion and beauty!
